Frequently Asked QuestionsDo I need any dance experience?
Absolutely not! All you need is enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and to not be afraid to make mistakes along the way. Even the most experienced dancers make mistakes when they are tackling something new-it's all part of the learning process!
What should we expect from our dance lessons?
Over the course of your lessons, your instructor will guide you through various steps starting from the most basic, gradually progressing to the more challenging step patterns. Once you are confident with the movements themselves and how they fit with the timing of your chosen song, you instructor will then either guide you through the basics of leading and following so that you can confidently dance freestyle, OR, they will choreograph a routine designed especially to suit your vision, ability and song choice.
How many lessons will we need?
The number of lessons you will need depends entirely on the complexity of you bridal dance routine, how well you respond to the material you are learning and how much time you have available before your big day. Generally speaking, most couples attend between 6 and 10 lessons. Ithika Bridal dance will tailor an enrolment package to suit your needs!
How far out from our wedding should we start?
How early you begin depends on how many lesson you are able to attend in a week. For example, if you can only attend one lesson per week and you have enrolled in 6 lessons, then obviously you will need to start 6 weeks in advance of you wedding date. Some couples even start a few weeks earlier than this, assess their progress at the second last lesson, and then, should they feel that they require a few more lessons, then there is ample time available for them. If they do not wish to have any more lessons, they take a break for a however many weeks to practice and then, the week of their big day, they have their final lesson to refresh.
Where and when will our lessons take place?
Your lessons will take place at a time and location convenient to you-your home or office, or our studio! Ithika Bridal Dance operates 7 days a week, 10am until 10pm.
How frequent do our lessons need to be?
It is recommended that in the initial stages of learning, your lessons be scheduled regularly, as close together as possible. That way, the information you have learned will stay fresh in your mind-and you feet-and you won't have to go through the frustrating process of relearning it all!
How often should we practice in between sessions?
As often as you can! The more you practice, the more the movement will become like second nature and you will be able to relax and enjoy your special day without having to stress about how each step goes and what comes next in your routine (should you be dancing one).
What do we need to wear?
You should wear whatever you feel the most comfortable in! Light, loose clothing that allows you to move freely is ideal. You should avoid rubber shoes as they can stick to the floor and make it difficult to move! Ladies, if you are used to wearing shoes that are similar to those, which you will be wearing on the day, then you needn't wear them to every lesson (unless of course you wish to). It is, however, recommended that you wear them to at least the last one or two lessons just to get a feel for dancing in them. If however, you are not altogether comfortable standing, walking or moving in any way in heels, then you should definitely try to wear your bridal shoes for at least part of each lesson. Gents should wear their shoes at least once towards the end just to get a feel for them.
