Sarah WiesnerCareer Highlights
After graduating from St Leonard's College in 1998, having achieved full 'school
colours' for participation in the performing arts and an ENTER of 95.55, Sarah embarked upon a
Bachelor of Arts through the Dean's Scholars Program at Monash University, majoring in Drama and
Theatre Studies, and English. In 1999, by recommendation, she was employed to direct the school
play for Noble Park Secondary College—though barely a year older than the students. In 2000–2001,
she taught Latin, ballroom and swing dancing for Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Melbourne. Sarah
has played roles such as 'The Baker's Wife' in Sondheim's Into the Woods, Mary Magdalene in
Lloyd-Weber's Jesus Christ Superstar, 'Beth' in Pinter's Landscape and 'Cherry' in Nowra's Cosi
with various ensembles. In 2002, she was accepted by audition into Wal Cherry
Award-winning playwright Anthony Crowley's elite musical theatre ensemble, The Wild Blue Co, and
performed in two showings of his original musical-in-progress. In 2003, Sarah directed and
produced Tom Stoppard's Arcadia in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, running question
time for VCE literature students after some shows. She also co-directed, with AFI Award-winning
screenplay writer Peter Fitzpatrick, the original Australian musical The White Rose, which opened
in Melbourne and toured to Singapore. She then launched Ithika Productions, producing, directing
and writing for a production called [After a pause], which comprised of six short works and was
performed in the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Sarah established Ithika through the government's New
Enterprise Incentive Scheme, completing Certificate IV in Small Business Management. After
travelling for some time around far north Queensland, including a long spell in the Daintree
Rainforest, Sarah returned to Melbourne and completed the Certificate of Drama and Performance
Australia and the Diploma of Publishing (Professional Book Editing, Proofreading & Publishing).
She is currently studying a Diploma of Counselling & Communication and aims to undertake Honours
in Drama and Theatre Studies next year.
