Ithika Productions has designed a series of workshops for secondary students focused on two key areas, the analysis, preparation and creation of a text for performance and the administration and marketing involved in staging a show. The workshops are:
- 'Air to Breath, Words to Actions'
- 'Making Theatre'
- 'Managing Theatre'
- 'The Art of Persuasion'
This workshop series encourages students of literature and English to advance their textual understanding from the page to the stage, the place where play texts belong. In one to three days, students consider the elements of drama, lighting, costume, setting, etc, and demonstrate how consideration of these elements feeds a stronger interpretation of a play from a literary perspective. This workshop is designed to probe students' creativity; it takes the seed of an idea, generated by either Ithika, the teacher or the students, and teaches participants the ways to pool resources and ideas into a product. It will cover form, content, research, script writing, use of space and objects, use of the body, colour, design, dramaturgy and intertextualisation. Contact us to find out more.
This workshop engages students in the Ithika methodology to administrate, promote and produce their school's musical or play. It connects dramatic investigations such as the question of a project's message or 'super objective' with the process of marketing, and fits that message to an audience, a campaign strategy, etc. Contact us to find out more.
We've all heard the expression 'preaching to the choir'. The paradox of making art with a message is that it usually only appeals to people who already agree with your message. More often than not, the message comes in the form of a lecture, which offends everybody except those who share the view already. People rarely change their mind based on what they're told, they change it based on what they're shown. It's a matter of empiricism. The key to persuasion, then, is empathy. This workshop looks at empathy, metaphor and analogy in the context of interpersonal communication and art. Students will be guided through the process of creating a dramatic work, on a theme of their choice, that aims to win over its least likely audience. They will see that you can lead the horse to water, and make it drink. Contact us to find out more.
